Nao d’amores will appear at La Abadía for the eighth time with a Renaissance tragedy that calls into question the exercise of power and offers us an opportunity to explore the play’s political connections with our own age.
Based on the works Nise lastimosa (Nise the Pitiful) and Nise laureada (Nise Crowned) byJerónimo Bermúdez, the director, Ana Zamora, constructs a unified dramatic piece that enables us to explore this vision of poor government through one of the best-known stories of Spanish-Portuguese tradition, namely the legend of Inés de Castro, the lover of Prince Peter of Portugal, who was murdered in the cause of the politics of the common good and them crowned, after she was dead, as the Queen of Portugal.
The love and death of the beautiful Inés serve as a warning regarding palace intrigues and the despicable attitudes of governing figures dragged down by courtly life.
A new show from Nao d’amores, in its capacity as an associate company at La Abadía, based on its unmistakeable theatrical approach, one in which the music, directed by Alicia Lázaro, plays a key role.
