Letters and poems by Unamuno in later life, together with the famous speech he delivered on 12th October 1936 at the Paraninfo Auditorium of Salamanca University. The last few months of his life, under house arrest at his home in Salamanca, before the writer passed away on 31st December of the same year, were a period of confinement, loneliness and disenchantment. A time “to become unborn”.
The actor, stage director and member of the Spanish Royal Academy (RAE), José Luis Gómez, has prepared a new show that reflects his preoccupation with Spain’s Historical Recollection and his commitment to the living expression of the Spanish language.
This will be an intimate monologue in the vein of one of the actor’s most memorable performances, “Azaña, una pasión española” (“Azaña: A Spanish Passion”).
The year 2018 will mark the Eighth Centenary of the University of Salamanca, the oldest university in Spain and one of the oldest in Europe, founded in 1218. The production Unamuno: venceréis pero no convenceréis will be presented within the framework of the Eighth Centenary celebrations.
