Childhood is like a knife stuck in the throat.
After a hermetic silence lasting five years, a mother, played by Nuria Espert, finally dies, leaving an envelope to each of her twin children. As of this point we become witnesses to a search for the traces of a life characterised by war and distress, one in which political and human tragedy are interwoven in a heartrending tale.
With this work, the Canadian playwright of Lebanese origin, Wajdi Mouawad, managed to touch the hearts of audiences in many countries with an intensity that has rarely been witnessed before. “Mouawad’s work is incendiary, but in the manner of a fabulous phoenix that is reborn from the ashes. Incendies (“Scorched”) talks about this rebirth, about fires that sometimes have to be lit, about the terrible path that sometimes needs to be trodden for one to be able to reach oneself.”
Mario Gas brings together an extraordinary cast for the première of this key work of the twenty-first century.
