The Teatro de La Abadía is a member of the Union of Theatres of Europe, an organisation founded in 1990 upon the initiative of Giorgio Strehler. This Union brings together a number of emblematic theatres, all of which share the goal of implementing cultural measures that cross borders, based on a type of art theatre, one that is considered to be a source of poetry, reflection and shared experience and exchange.
The UTE organises festivals, takes part in the Europe Prize, supports the co-production of theatrical works and encourages dialogue among different stage artists. Furthermore, it produces publications and organises exhibitions and workshops on specific themes.
In recent seasons, La Abadía has carried out exchanges with the São João National Theatre in Porto, the Katona Theatre in Budapest and the Bulandra Theatre in Bucharest, and it has taken part in various editions of the UTE Festival. This year it will present "La paz perpetua" ("Perpetual Peace") and "Argelino, servidor de dos amos" at the UTE Festival in Bucharest and Cluj.

La Abadía forms part of DeMon: which signifies "the world" ("monde") in reverse. Promoted by the French Embassy in Spain, this consists of a cultural cooperation programme between the two countries, one that enjoys the support of CulturesFrances (representing the French Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture), INAEM (the Spanish Ministry of Culture) and the Culture and Tourism Department of the Regional Government of Madrid, among other bodies.
The purpose of this "focal-point for French-Spanish creation" is to reactivate a policy of artistic dissemination and exchange, based on the support of the business and university sectors. This framework for cooperation includes activities such as film cycles, conferences and debates, workshops, concerts and theatre and dance shows, revolving around figures of interest to both countries.
The Teatro de La Abadía is a member of the Spanish State-Owned Network of Theatres, Auditoriums, Circuits and Festivals, a non-profit-making body that was set up in the year 2000, based on an agreement with the Ministry of Culture. The Network is currently made up of 123 theatres and auditoriums and 10 regional circuits in different Spanish regions, which represent more than 450 stage venues.
The main objective is to boost cooperation among different bodies, thus offering better services to all theatre lovers. The Network also organises courses and meetings for professionals and serves as a forum for summoning members of the profession to events and workshops staged by associated organisations.
